Self-guided tours in Vancouver, BC

Downtown Vancouver is a peninsula, which makes it unusually good for self-guided touring: water on three sides, a seawall connecting almost everything, and the historic core packed into Gastown and the waterfront. Tell us your mode and how long you have, and the route starts from your exact spot.

Walking, scooter or driving?

Walking

Gastown, the waterfront and the downtown core work perfectly on foot — two hours covers the historic stops. Note the hill between the waterfront and Robson.

Bike, e-bike or e-scooter

The strongest mode in Vancouver. The seawall is separated from traffic and links Coal Harbour, Stanley Park, False Creek and Kitsilano. A 90-minute ride covers ground a walker needs half a day for.

Driving

Use it for UBC, the Museum of Anthropology, the Botanical Garden or the North Shore. Downtown parking is expensive; we route you to one lot and walk the cluster.

When to go

Summer (Jun–Sep)

Dry, long evenings, sunset past 9pm in June. Beaches and the seawall are busy — start early for photos.

Fall (Oct–Nov)

Rain arrives. Great for Gastown, the galleries and covered market stops.

Winter (Dec–Mar)

Mild but wet. Short daylight — plan tours to end before 4:30pm and favour indoor stops.

Spring (Apr–May)

Cherry blossoms citywide in April and the quietest seawall of the year.
