Toronto historic walk: a 2-hour self-guided downtown route
A sample itinerary from Union Station east to the Distillery District — roughly 3 km, flat, about two hours with time at each stop. Every stop is in our library, so you can load the route and let the app reorder it around wherever you start.
6 stops · about 120 minutes including time at each one · walking pace.
- 1
Union Station Great Hall
Spend about 15 min
Stand in the middle of the hall and look up: the vaulted Guastavino tile ceiling and the carved names of Canadian destinations along the frieze.
- 2
Hockey Hall of Fame
Spend about 20 min
The building matters as much as the trophies — it's the 1885 Bank of Montreal, with the stained-glass dome now over the Stanley Cup.
- 3
St. Lawrence Market
Spend about 20 min
South building for food, and the old city hall bones it was built around. Note the Gooderham Flatiron on the walk out.
- 4
Distillery Historic District
Spend about 25 min
Victorian industrial brick, cobblestone lanes, no cars. Look for the original Gooderham & Worts stone tank house and the pump house chimney.
- 5
Harbourfront Centre
Spend about 20 min
Walk back along the waterfront: warehouses converted to studios and galleries, with the island ferries and the lake behind them.
- 6
CN Tower
Spend about 20 min
End at the base for scale, or go up for the view. Either way it's the easiest place to see how the route you just walked fits together.
Doing it with the app
The planner reorders these stops around wherever you're standing, gives you live directions between them, and shows the history and photos when you arrive. First three stops are free; the $2 day pass unlocks the rest for 48 hours. Store code from a local shop? The whole tour is on them.
