7 stops · about 105 minutes including time at each one · walking pace.

  1. 1

    Confederation Landing Park

    Spend about 10 min

Start at the water. The delegates came ashore here in 1864 — the boardwalk plaques mark the landing and give you the harbour orientation for the rest of the walk.

  2. 2

    Peake's Wharf Historic Waterfront

    Spend about 15 min

The working end of the harbour. Look at the shipbuilding history panels, then walk the wharf out for the view back at the skyline of steeples.

  3. 3

    Great George Street Historic District

    Spend about 15 min

Walk uphill and read the street: brick and clapboard facades restored to the 1860s, each with a date plaque. It's the exact route the delegates took.

  4. 4

    St. Dunstan's Basilica

    Spend about 15 min

Twin spires, rebuilt after the 1913 fire. Go inside for the vaulting and the rose window if a service isn't on.

  5. 5

    Province House National Historic Site

    Spend about 20 min

The Confederation Chamber. Even during exterior restoration the sandstone building and its interpretation centre are the anchor of the whole walk.

  6. 6

    Confederation Centre of the Arts

    Spend about 20 min

Deliberately modern brutalist counterpoint next door, built for the 1964 centennial. Free gallery levels and the outdoor plaza.

  7. 7

    Victoria Row

    Spend about 15 min

Finish on the pedestrian block: Victorian shopfronts, patios and live music in summer. Good place to stop for food before you head back down to the water.
